Makayla Tang (she/her) is a research technician in the Srivatsan Lab at Fred Hutch. She received her M.S. in Biostatistics from the University of Washington, where she specialized in data science, and her B.S. in Biomedical Sciences in Taiwan. During her graduate training, Makayla worked on statistical modeling for reproductive medicine, transcriptomic data analysis, and machine learning for biomedical applications. She later worked as a biostatistician, developing statistical and machine learning models for clinical HIV research. In the Srivatsan Lab, Makayla is developing deep learning approaches to study protein evolution, with a focus on protein language models, sparse autoencoders, and sequence representations to improve the interpretability of protein foundation models.
